Drawing in India ink

Olivier LÉPRONT

India ink on paper

2024

1400 *

For the Private Choice 2024 edition, a new medium makes its entrance into Olivier Lépront's work: Chinese ink. By lending a monochromatic character to his creations, it transforms them into trompe-l'oeil pieces that resemble black and white photographs. This use of ink wash, in addition to giving his work a vintage feel, undermines the psychedelic aspect usually associated with tires found on the seashore. The artist captures ordinary scenes of life, freezing them in an undefined environment. Here, the artist took as his model the beach toy vendors observed in Cefalù, in southern Italy.
