France Bizot

France Bizot is a multidisciplinary artist, trained at the École supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and a renowned former artistic director. Capturing fleeting moments as well as one’s own reflection, the Polaroid, according to France Bizot, embodies the beginnings of the selfie.

In her “Polaroils” series, presented at Galerie Backslash in 2023, France Bizot’s universe is sprinkled with references drawn from social networks. Taking up the iconic format of the photo object, portraits of anonymous people, celebrities and other trivial scenes alternate at the same rhythm as the narcissistic publications that scroll on our screens.

For the April 2024 edition, Private Choice has chosen to exhibit a selection of portraits of women who seem to defy the lens. Among them, a pensive Andy Warhol. The realism of France Bizot’s touch is tinged with a pop art aesthetic, playing with contrasts and saturated colors. A reference that becomes a mise en abyme, when we are aware that the Polaroid camera has been one of the master’s indispensable items since the 50s. Over a period of thirty years, Andy Warhol collected an incalculable number of pictures, an obsession that marked the golden age of instant photography.
