France BIZOT

France Bizot is a multidisciplinary artist trained at the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and a renowned former artistic director. Capturing fleeting moments as well as her own reflection, the Polaroid embodies, according to France Bizot, the beginnings of the selfie.

In her series “Polaroils” presented at the Backslash Gallery in 2023, numerous references drawn from social networks dot the universe of France Bizot. Taking up the iconic format of the photographic object, portraits of anonymous people, personalities, and other trivial scenes alternate at the same rhythm as the narcissistic publications scrolling on our screens.

During the April 2024 edition, Private Choice chose to exhibit a selection of portraits of women who seem to defy the lens. Among them is a pensive Andy Warhol. The realism characteristic of France Bizot's touch is tinged with a pop art aesthetic, playing with contrasts and saturated colors. A reference that has become mise en abyme, when we know that the Polaroid camera has been among the master's essentials since the 1950s. In about thirty years, Andy Warhol amassed an incalculable number of shots, an obsession that marked the golden age of instant photography.
