Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1991, Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria studied 3D cinema in São Paulo before continuing his training at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. He is a multidisciplinary artist, expresses himself through different mediums or his body, moving from painting to ceramic, from photography to contemporary dance.

Graduated since 2020, Daniel creates multi-faceted poetic devices designed to question a complex history in which representations of marginal bodies in society are often restrictive. His emancipatory, radical and fantasy worksanchor his practice of resilience in an exponential human transmutation. His installations also give rise to performances and soundtracks.  Transgression becomes the watchword of his artistic approach: Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria he’ is where you least expect him.

In his Cradle of the World series, mattress slats are placed on the floor or suspended in the air. The impact is striking, the surprise effect unavoidable. In this panorama of human and animal cohabitation, Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria shows us his vision of a fragmented world. The alternating « full and empty » of the bed slats gives substance to this central idea, related to the global ecocide we are living. His thoughts in prose on the back of the wooden slats, adding another reading level to his resolutely committed work.
