Clarence Guéna

Clarence Guéna is a multi-faceted artist. At once a painter, craftsman and technician, he establishes a dialogue between material, form and color through engraving.

After studying at the Villa Arson in Nice in 2011, he decided to build his own engraving machine for his studio. Thanks to this tool, which he accompanies with his gesture, he is able to draw on a constellation of images that he is constantly collecting.

There’s no need for preparatory drawings, just a vector program to guide the laser and reveal the colors of the randomly superimposed layers of resin. Letting go and the absence of anticipation pave the way for a tactile score, with a three-dimensional, abstract lyricism. Clarence Guéna gives to his process an almost archaeological gesture, where the removal of material reveals the motif.

Clarence Guéna is currently represented by Galerie Françoise Livinec.
