Quayola

Quayola uses technology as a prism to explore tensions and balances between seemingly opposing forces: the real and the artificial, the figurative and the abstract, the old and the new. He uses and reimagines classical iconography – Hellenistic sculpture, paintings of the old Masters, Baroque architecture… – through contemporary technology. His practice is varied: audiovisual performance, video, sculpture and works on paper.

The prints of the series Remains as well as the video Summer Gardens explore a new way of representing landscape, continuing the pictorial tradition of the painters from the end of the 19th century. Through 3D scans of trees, flowers and leaves, made in the gardens of the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, the artist becomes the interpreter of a new practice of representation of landscape: his sensitivity enters in dialogue with the objectivity of the machine.
