Mariana HAHN

After studying drama at the ETI in Berlin, Mariana Hahn obtained her degree in visual arts from Central Saint Martins, London, in 2012. In her practice, she questions archives and archiving processes, the memory of her body and her own genealogy, as well as their transfer to other media, whether paper, copper, or other organic and mineral materials. Water and salt allow the artist to affix her own silhouette onto large, thin copper plates, when she imprints her sweat-covered body after running, when she inscribes a few lines with her tongue, or when she whispers poems near piles of salt. Her body becomes the substrate and vector of memory. The marked surfaces become her agents of conservation and transmission. However, the body requires the intervention of intermediaries such as water, salt, air, and light.

Her works have been exhibited in numerous venues, such as PS120, Diskurs in Berlin, in China, and at the Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles (2021) and Poush Manifesto (2022).
