Encounter - 18th Private Choice edition during Paris Photo
It's a story of vision and resonance: Private Choice 2025
At Private Choice 2019, a love affair seals a meeting: Laurent Goumarre, radio personality and photographer, acquires a painting byHervé Priou, a painter in the midst of his artistic evolution. Suspended silhouettes, murky atmospheres, cinematic light, the work reminds him of an Alain Delon film, perhaps a memory, or a dream.
Since then, the desire to create together has matured. A dialogue has gradually developed between them, born of a genuine artistic affinity. Presented as part of the 18th edition of Private Choice, this encounter was both fortuitous and obvious.
Exhibition Encounter in a historic venue
In the confidential setting of a Parisian villa-atelier, amidst design objects and contemporary furniture, the works of the two artists are staged by Nadia Candet and her team, just a few steps from the effervescence of Paris Photo. From November 13 to 16, 2025, the exhibition Encounter reveals a sensitive face-to-face encounter between two sometimes complicit, sometimes dissonant visual writings : the photographer's lens and the painter's gestures.
With Laurent Goumarre's fine, narrative photography on one side, and Hervé Priou's expressive new paintings on the other, Encounter invites you to live an inner experience, where each work to be acquired becomes a bridge between two visions of the world, between two distinct sensibilities in search of accuracy.
Laurent Goumarre's sensitive photography resonates with Hervé Priou's new painting, which is instinctive, vibrant and mysteriously inhabited. Hervé paints scenes suspended in time, where the intimate rubs shoulders with the enigmatic.
Laurent photographs with precision the moment captured, in a gaze that struggles to disentangle fiction from reality. Together, they don't illustrate, they respond. Sometimes by echoes, sometimes contrasts.
A new event that's a must-see Encounter marks the birth of a vibrant vibrant and original dialogue between two artists who, at the end of the day, have everything in common: a taste for the sensitive, the evidence of the gaze, the power of silence. So, in a single movement, painting comes to photography, and photography comes to painting. They meet.
An invitation to an intimate experience, where contemporary art is explored as an exchange, because for there to be an encounter, there has to be a place, and you have to know how to get there. know how to get there to meet: four days at 40 rue Paul Valéry, 75116 Paris, a 10-minute cab ride from the Grand Palais.
