Emmanuelle Bousquet
After graduating from the École supérieure de journalisme in Paris, Emmanuelle Bousquet spent a year at Ucla Los Angeles and then Speos in Paris. She decided to photograph the people most dear to her: her mother and her sister. Later, it would seem more fitting to use her own body as the subject of her photographs, as a painter would use his paint. Her approach to self-portraiture took her to the other side of the mirror.
Fascinated by the idea of confronting the torments of introspection, she discovers herself to be explorer of femininity. This approach gives rise to more aesthetic and symbolic notions, as well asstaging that has become the unmistakable signature of her style. Her work is the fruit of a quest that is both aesthetic and existential.
His series Obscure Senses is presented at the Private Choice photo edition in November 2024. Diaphanous-skinned models move gracefully down a listed staircase, evoking both a convent and a brothel. Wearing period wigs, these women appear like ghosts ghosts of the Grand Siècle. Their idle, languorous poses suggest departed spirits that seem to haunt the premises.
