Esther Imard's painting can be understood as a work on light, like the figure that appears on photographic film through light exposure, or the actor who appears on stage under the glare of the spotlight. A matte black background, almost nothingness, forms the basis from which she develops her representation. Through this technique, the light emanates from the subject itself, giving life and substance to the figure.
