UHO architects
Based in Paris and directed by Max Turnheim and Max Utech, UHO architects develops a practice with a dual focus: construction and research. With SCHIRCHthe studio ventures outside the realm of architecture to design a collection of furniture that breaks free from building norms.
Sofa, armchair, bench and stools are made from aluminum profiles and fitness bags. Their visual and tactile equivalence produces a disturbing effect: volumes that are monumental in appearance but surprisingly welcoming to the touch. The name SCHIRCH - a term from the Viennese dialect popularized by Franz West (meaning "not beautiful", "rough") - assumes this discrepancy and turns it into an aesthetic principle: diverting ordinary materials to generate frank, direct, sensitive forms.
