PAPILLONS Studio

The Papillons studio producescolorful glazed earthenware pieces with an immediately recognizablewhimsical and kitsch visual identity. Believing that freedom unfolds in its finest forms through constraint, the Papillons studio’s approach involves exploring the history of French ceramics and reimagining its forms as a vast playground. To this end, they scour museums and flea markets in search of a mold or ornament that will then be repositioned, disproportioned, or amplified in color. The result is pieces with a familiar appearance that do not, however, evoke a specific era, and which conjure up sweet memories mingled with joy.
