Simon NICAISE
Simon Nicaise is a French artist born in 1982, a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. Some of his works are held in the collections of the CNAP and the FRAC of Haute-Normandie, and he has received several awards, including the Jeune Création prize (2009) and the Sciences Po prize for contemporary art (2011).
His involvement in community work led him to create and manage the Stork Galerie in Rouen with Morgane Fourey from 2008 to 2011, and then to found the web radio *DUUU – Unités Radiophoniques Mobiles in 2012.
In the +1 collection, he undertakes, according to a determined and predefined protocol, to affix an additional unit to a selection of works borrowed from the corpus of minimal and conceptual art. A collection constrained by the additional unit, a principle that bridles and amplifies the potential for creation in the same movement. The addition of a +1 questions and disturbs the spirit and boundaries of sculpture by extending the initial work in quotation.
