Olivier RATSI

The work of Olivier Ratsi posits objective reality, time, space, and matter as intangible notions of information. He designs works that lead the viewer to question their own interpretation of reality.

During the creative process, Olivier Ratsi implements devices for deconstructing spatio-temporal landmarks by relying on the technique of anamorphosis. He cites the codes of conical perspective, a method of visual representation theorized by Leon Battista Alberti in his treatise De Pictura (1435).
The geometric images he develops are not immediately visible: it is necessary to move through space to find the vanishing point that will reveal the work...
Thus, this anamorphosis tests the viewer's ability to deconstruct / reconstruct what they perceive, by questioning what they think they see and what they actually see.
The subjective experience of the viewer is fundamental in Olivier Ratsi's work because it is what allows one to apprehend the work in a phenomenological way. The world around us is not as it appears to us at first glance.

This study of the phenomena of perception led Olivier Ratsi to the project Perspicere. By attempting to freeze the vanishing point in a sculpture, Perspicere materializes this mental space and accounts for this ocular phenomenon.
