Nicolette de WAART
Dutch designer and artist Nicolette de Waart creates objects that combine femininity, elegance and functionality with an artisanal approach to natural materials. Settled in the Netherlands after years in Singapore and London, she has developed an aesthetic vocabulary inspired by her travels, nature and traditional skills.
Her creations, ranging from furniture and lighting to sculpture and functional objects, combine ancestral techniques - bronze, wood, textiles, ceramics and lost wax - with a contemporary sensibility. Winner of several awards for iconic pieces such as Leaf Seats and Poppy Bloom Stools, Nicolette continues to push back the boundaries between tradition and innovation.
The lamp Perfect Imperfect Berrypresented at Private Choice, testifies to this singular approach. Inspired by traditional Japanese "Chochin" lanterns, it is crafted entirely by hand from paper and fabric. The assumed irregularity of its organic form reveals a poetic aesthetic, where the beauty of natural imperfections is sublimated by light and material. At once light and robust, this lamp becomes a surprising sculptural object, floating delicately on three legs in wood and patinated bronze, perfectly embodying the alliance between functionality, art and tradition.
