Malo CHAPUY

The images that brought places of worship and palaces of the late Middle Ages and the Western Renaissance to life seem to have traveled through the centuries to find their way intoMalo Chapuy’s works. Fascinated by the aesthetics of medieval liturgical works and illuminated manuscripts, he seeks to adopt the eye and technique of a 14th-century painter, while incorporating his own contemporary references. Particularly drawn tothe concept of anachronism, Malo Chapuy brings together, within a single composition, figures drawn from the religious repertoire alongside buildings inspired by modernist and industrial architecture.

In 2022, as a recent graduate of Stéphane Calais’s studio and still unknown to the art market, Private Choice recognized a rare quality in him and, in an unprecedented move, extended his participation in the 11th edition with a solo exhibition in Marseille that same year, showcasing his *Châteaux d’eau* series. As proof of their undeniable flair, the artist’s meteoric rise on the international scene began shortly thereafter. Featured in the “Gothiques” exhibition at the Louvre-Lens, which concluded in January 2026, he made the cover of the Summer 2026 issue of *Art in America*, which then included him on its list of 20 promising international artists to watch. For its 19th edition, * Private *Choice presents a painting that draws inspiration from the world of cinema and reimagines the tower from the famous science-fiction film *Metropolis* directed by Fritz Lang in 1927.
