Lisa Ouakil
Lisa Ouakil 's work revolves around painting. Her work is always profoundly linked to the notion of displacement, whether geographical, physical or embodied in a projection of the gaze elsewhere. Each canvas is a tipping point between reality and fiction, between the extraction of an image and its transcendence. Most often derived from photographs, her paintings develop around the analogy between pictorial material and flesh, and notions of the fragmentation of the body and landscape, with particular attention to the use of color. The artist pays particular attention to rocky, volcanic, carnal and organic forms, the first elements of a painting that is both concrete and sensual.
