Lisa OUAKIL

The pictorial work of Lisa Ouakil essentially revolves around painting. Her work is always deeply linked to the notion of displacement, whether it is geographical, physically real, or embodied in a projection of the gaze elsewhere. Each canvas is a moment of transition between reality and fiction, between the extraction of an image and its transcendence. Most often derived from photographs, her paintings develop around the analogy between the pictorial material and the flesh, notions of fragmentation of the body and landscape, with particular attention to the work of color. The artist pays particular attention to rocky, volcanic, but also fleshy and organic forms, the first elements of a painting that is both concrete and sensual.
