Juan Fernando HIDALGO

Juan Fernando Hidalgo is an Ecuadorian designer.

His creations are characterized by the use of totora, an innovative material: this reed is renowned for its water resistance, durability, and flexibility. Growing on the shores of Lake Titicaca, at the border between Peru and Bolivia, it is a material used for many purposes. The Aymara people weave it to build boats allowing them to cross the lake.

Juan Fernando Hidalgo uses this particular material as a seating area, fixed to a wooden base with natural latex. An ecological and innovative creation, recyclable, which earned the artist a UNESCO Award for Recognition of Excellence  in 2014 for an earlier version of this armchair.

The bichromy of the armchair highlights the reed seat, the green color emphasizing the original environment of this plant within a verdant nature. It also embellishes the curved line of the armchair, inviting the public to sit in this Rocking chair and let themselves by rocked.

The Rocking chair presented in the 2025 selection of Private Choice.
