Juan Fernando HIDALGO
Juan Fernando Hidalgo is an Ecuadorian designer.
His creations are characterized by the use of totora, an innovative material: this reed is known for its water resistance, durability, and flexibility. Growing on the shores of Lake Titicaca, on the border between Peru and Bolivia, it is a material used in many ways. The Aymara people weave it to build boats that allow them to cross the lake.
Juan Fernando Hidalgo uses this unique material as a seat, attached to a wooden base with natural latex. This eco-friendly and innovative design is recyclable and earned the artist a UNESCO Award for Excellence in 2014 for an early version of this armchair.
The two-tone color scheme of the chair highlights the reed seat, with the green color emphasizing the plant's natural environment, surrounded by lush greenery. It also embellishes the curved lines of the chair, inviting the public to sit down in this rocking chair and let themselves be rocked.
