His creations are characterized by the use of totoraThis reed is renowned for its water resistance, durability and flexibility. Growing on the shores of Lake Titicacaon the Peruvian-Bolivian border, it is a material used for many purposes. The Aymaras weave it to build boats to cross the lake.
Juan Fernando Hidalgo uses this very special material as a seating area, attached to a wooden base with natural latex. This innovative, recyclable ecological creation has earned the artist a UNESCO Prize for Recognition of Excellence in 2014 for a first version of this armchair.
The chair's two-color scheme highlights the reed seat, the green color underlining the plant's original environment in a verdant natural setting. It also embellishes the chair's curved line, enticing the public to settle into this Rocking chair and let themselves be rocked.
