Hervé Priou

Hervé Priou was born in 1990. He lives and works between Paris and the center of France in Haute-Corrèze. He paints small pictures - landscapes, plants, characters and parts of the human body... - in which a detail always surprises us, tearing the image away from banality. His work is characterized by freedom, humor and irony. The choice of format "is not," he says, "because of any taste for the miniature, but rather because, for the moment, it allows me to concentrate, to better master space and to make intimate objects, which you have to get close to in order to distinguish them properly".

Within these images, elements structure the composition and are "both space-building elements (depth and planes) and triggers for sensations - just as architecture affects our senses - (tension, relaxation, oppression, gentleness...)".

Hervé Priou lives most of his time in Haute-Corrèze, where he has "found the space and availability I needed". Agnès B. has bought several works from him, and he was recently featured in the "Regards hors-champ et paysages" exhibition (September 25, 2020 - June 26, 2021) at La Fab (Paris).
