Floriane de LASSÉE
Proud of an eclectic and sincere approach that has evolved throughout her life, Floriane de Lassée's career is nonetheless marked by a photographic series entitled Inside Out, which she worked on for ten years.
A view of Paris from this iconic series will be exhibited at the Private Choice photo edition in November 2024. It stages a silent character in a nocturnal, urban landscape, with the Panthéon in the background. The model at the piano, exceptionally shown from behind, unknowingly soothes a secret admirer posted at his window. The use of a large format camera requires an exposure time of 10 to 40 minutes, freezing the image in a parallel space. The metallic hues, which give the work depth and a certain preciousness, are due to the use of iridescent and metallic paper, evoking the aesthetics of old cibachrome prints.
In contrast to this photographic process, her latest series,When water rises, emerges. Conceived during a trip around the world in 2023-2024, this series takes root on the beaches ofTanna Island in Vanuatu, Oceania. There, Floriane de Lassée transforms the volcanic sand beaches into muses. In an almost meditative approach, the rhythm of the waves guides her lens. Armed with a simple iPhone, she seeks, through observation and patience, to reconnect with the power of the Ocean, this crossroads between terrestrial and marine life. Once reworked, the images evoke the mountainous and volcanic reliefs characteristic of the Pacific. The artist presents them as simple prints or mounted in bas-relief, thus accentuating this impression of volume.
Finally, her series entitledPrésences reuses the window motif, behind which solitudes appear: a face-to-face encounter with the wall begins, leaving the viewer to wonder about the meaning of this choreography without name or face, at once sensual and intimate. The artist gives her models only one instruction: to try to pass to the other side of this semi-opaque glass wall. She then captures the poses of these anonymous models at the moment when the contact zones become islands of sharpness. The device set up is similar to the staging of an "installation". The light boxes illuminated by LEDs are produced in editions of 5 to 8.
