Constance ZIEGLER
A graduate of the Penninghen school in 2009, Constance Ziegler explored video art, graphic design, and oil painting before immersing herself in the creation of tufted rugs.
For the artist, the sensory dimension of a work is as important as its aesthetic appeal. Tufting seems to be the perfect remedy for the distance established between painting and its viewer: contact is deliberately de-sacralized by the very purpose of the rug and the object, disrupting our relationship with the work of art.
For her first collection of rugs inspired by the seabed, the artist draws from her bobbins as if they were pots of paint, giving color a prominent place in her artistic process. She tirelessly explores the technique of modern tapestry, using her tufting gun to transform her watercolor drawings and bring forth fish, starfish, or corals.
For the 2023 edition of Private Choice, Constance Ziegler merges worlds by creating sculptural stools that combine art, craftsmanship, and design. Her two textile creations command attention in the center of any room: their trails embrace the floor like a rug and spread an audacious diversity of colors and reliefs onto the seat.
