Aurelia JAUBERT
Born in 1967, she lives and works in Joucas, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Aurélia Jaubert's artistic gesture is first and foremost one of composition, assembling motifs that are a priori foreign to one another. Gathering and reorganizing dozens of vintage canvases, she shapes imposing composite tapestries to create scenes teeming with detail. Combining a traditional sewing gesture with a contemporary point of view, she builds polyphonic visual frescoes in which styles and eras meet and articulate. Her works are inhabited by characters from popular culture, stereotypical representations and figures or motifs from art history, all digested by the gestures of creative leisure.
The artist skilfully sets good and bad taste in motion, and summons all the hands women's hands who, in response to the injunction of domestic entertainment, fashioned these decorative images to adorn their homes. Through their syncretism and their origins, Aurélia Jaubert's tapestries are committed to defending the idea of a popular figurative art.
For the October 2025 edition of Private Choice , Aurélia Jaubert presents three of her tapestries entitled : Les Cerfs Ailés (2022), The Great Magic Circus (2024) and The Return of Jean-Michel (2025).
