Philippe RAMETTE

Philippe Ramette is a visual artist and photographer born in 1961 in Auxerre, living and working in Paris.

After abandoning painting in 1988 by burning his last work, he embarked on photography and sculpture. His work is characterized by the omnipresence of the body, represented in unique situations: characters in suits underwater, in positions where imbalance is permanent. A contrast is created between these figures in serious clothes and these almost comical situations, where the material seems to defy the laws of gravity.

In the works presented for this 2025 selection, it is this imbalance that is highlighted: two sculptures enter into dialogue with the exhibition space. One, Praise of Imbalance, almost makes bronze, a material known for its weight, appear light; the other, Praise of Imbalance, plays on the contrast between a material known for its weight, but made light by its casual attitude. The photograph Praise of Sidestepping is a direct variation of a monumental sculpture in the city of Nantes.

A work filled with praise that is sure to attract accolades!
