Luisa MAISEL

The ceramic creations of Luisa Maisel tell us a story, that of the meeting of an artistic culture with a craft technique, colored with an eminently American identity.

More than 35 years ago, the artist decided to leave New York, her hometown, for Nice. She brought with her the pop culture of the United States, which is reflected in her art through vibrant colors, playful forms and an accumulation of everyday objects.

The narrative thread of her series Another Dinner Party is reminiscent of one of the key works of Judy Chicago, created between 1974 and 1979 and entitled "The Dinner Party", now preserved at the Brooklyn Museum.

The artist offers her contemporary interpretation of the installation by dedicating a plate to each female artist who has touched and inspired her, and whom she wishes to highlight. These revisited portraits are painted on large Audrey Blackman porcelain plates, hand-turned and painted, and accompanied by a spoon and a tumbler.

For its 2023 edition, Private Choice presents 10 copies chosen from the 39 produced, the names of which will be revealed in the dining room.
