LSB Atelier
Behind the initials LSB are Louis and Silvie Brière, born into a family of master glassmakers for four generations, who passed on their expertise. In 1983, Silvie joined the painting section of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, while Louis took over the Atelier Brière in 1995. Today, Louis works at Ateliers Duchemin, where he collaborates on numerous stained glass creations by artists and the restoration of heritage stained glass, while Silvie is a painter in the South of France.
They grew up in a 19th-century workshop where their parents created and produced stained glass. The hundreds of models, drawings, engravings, glass of all colors, and the smells of all kinds of materials are forever etched in their minds. The Brière family lived mainly around stained glass. Thus, their most famous creations are: The Coupole du Printemps and the stained glass windows of Jean Cocteau in Metz.
LSB was born from Louis and Silvie's strong desire to re-examine their origins. They wanted to combine their know-how and their undeniable complementarity. Together, they created an art object combining contemporary glass painting and ancestral master glassmaker techniques. The latter consists of using grisaille for the drawing and enamels for the coloring, followed by multiple firings up to 630°.
The art object Opus is the result of the observation of the medallion, traditionally incorporated into stained glass, as well as the transposition onto glass of Silvie's pictorial expression. An abstract landscape emerges through diffused light and plays of transparency.
