Laura Sattin

Born in Vincenza, Italy, Laura Sattin combines her career as an architect with her work as an artist. Her contemporary glass works, imagined and blown in her Swiss studio near Basel, are based on traditional craftsmanship. Anxious to perpetuate traditional know-how, the artist works alongside master glassmakers to perpetuate rare and complex glass-blowing techniques.

In 2023, Private Choice presented two pieces from its new series, using a process known as "double incalmo", notoriously difficult: four or six hands are required to graft the three colored glasses, blown individually. The materials are fused together under heat, giving rise to a singular trichromatic effect, which is then covered by a thick transparent wall. The artist plays with the chromatic circle to create colorful vases, alternating between complementary color combinations and cameos in natural, autumnal hues.
