John ARMLEDER

John Armleder was born in Geneva in 1948, where he is currently based. The artist's work is internationally recognised, and he is particularly interested in the issues of perception and reception of his pieces, as well as their integration into the environment. In 1969, he founded the Ecart group with other artists close to Fluxus. Their ambition is to master all phases of artistic production: from conception to distribution.

John Armleder began his career by developing abstract paintings with geometric and formalist characteristics. He is associated with the neo-geo trend and creates pieces that explore the tension between painting and sculpture. In his productions, references and borrowings from art history are fully embraced.

The Capsule stools and Time frames, produced by WE DO NOT WORK ALONE, echo each other through their colours and minimalist forms. The glitter, a familiar element in the Swiss artist's paintings, is applied here in layers of varnish by a coachbuilder specialising in the decoration of motorbikes and cars.

Capsule by John Armleder is inspired by Max Bill's Ulm stools. Designed in 1954 for the rooms of the Ulm School of Design in Germany, they are now produced by the manufacturer WB Form and bear the signature of Max Bill, an icon of Swiss functionalist design.

Time and Capsule are two complementary editions. When combined, they are available in 6 glitter colours (dark blue, light blue, yellow, purple, light green and dark green), with each piece being produced in 6 numbered and signed copies.
