DANNEELS + ZAFIRO

Founded in 2021 by Hugo Danneels and Julie Figueroa Zafiro, the design studio and cabinetmaking workshop Danneels + Zafiro creates furniture, lighting, and works of art. Their work explores the interplay between materials and artisanal craftsmanship: wood interacts with leather, horsehair, metal, and alabaster in compositions where contrasts and textures reveal the unique character of each material.

For its 19th edition, Private Choice is showcasing tables from its collection titled QUEMA. This collection draws inspiration from the artisans’ earliest passion—the encounter between fire and wood—and features furniture pieces crafted from charred and brushed ash.

After meticulously shaping, sculpting, and assembling the piece, it is placed in the fire. The firing process reveals a material in constant transformation—ranging from flakes and cracks to charcoal and deep black. The two designers strive to capture this moment of balance, thereby turning fire into a true medium of expression.
