Boris CHOUVELLON

Born in 1980, lives and works in Paris. Graduated from Villa Arson in Nice and Beaux Arts in Marseille.
"My field of exploration lies on the edge of the urban space and its periphery (territorial, social, and human). With a practice of wandering, I navigate (on foot, by car, by train) in border spaces (ring roads, highways, coastlines, waterways). I try to reproduce a representation of the modern ruin where agricultural, industrial, commercial, and abandoned construction zones are grafted, forgotten. All these states of the contemporary world are documented, photographed, recorded, filed. My working method consists of taking objects, shapes, impressions from the real world that I then transform in the space of the studio. My goal is to operate displacements and disconnections which, at the same time as they bring fragments of the world towards an imaginary, dreamlike dimension, also reveal the state. This process is each time a tense experience, on a knife's edge, close to imbalance where I try to avoid the confinement generated by the repetition of forms, patterns and mastery."

Boris Chouvellon has always been fascinated by what is behind the scenes, or what he calls "the aesthetics of the zone." To uncover its patterns, materials and objects, he surveys peri-urban areas and third-party landscapes.
