Boris CHOUVELLON
Born in 1980, lives and works in Paris. Graduated from Villa Arson in Nice and Beaux Arts in Marseille.
"My field of exploration lies at the edge of urban space and its periphery (territorial, social, and human). Through a practice of wandering, I navigate (on foot, by car, by train) border spaces (ring roads, highways, coastlines, waterways). I attempt to reproduce a representation of modern ruins, where agricultural, industrial, commercial, and abandoned, forgotten construction zones are grafted together. All these states of the contemporary world are documented, photographed, recorded, and filed away. My working method consists of taking objects, forms, and impressions from the real world, which I then transform in my studio. My goal is to create shifts and disconnections that, while bringing fragments of the world into an imaginary, dreamlike dimension, also reveal its state. This process is always a tense experience, on a knife's edge, close to imbalance, where I try to avoid the confinement that comes with the repetition of forms, patterns, and mastery. "
Boris Chouvellon has always been fascinated by what goes on behind the scenes, or what he calls "the aesthetics of the zone." To uncover its motifs, materials, and objects, he roams suburban areas and third landscapes. The works, future ruins of the society of the spectacle, refer to notions of disillusionment, survival, and total disenchantment.
