Aurelia JAUBERT
Born in 1967, she lives and works in Joucas, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Aurélia Jaubert's artistic gesture is first and foremost one of composition, assembling motifs that are a priori foreign to one another. Gathering and reorganizing dozens of vintage canvases, she shapes imposing composite tapestries to create scenes teeming with detail. Combining a traditional sewing gesture with a contemporary point of view, she builds polyphonic visual frescoes in which styles and eras meet and articulate. Her works are inhabited by characters from popular culture, stereotypical representations and figures or motifs from art history, all digested by the gestures of creative leisure.
With great care, the artist brings good and bad taste to life; she also pays homage to all the women who, in response to the call for domestic entertainment, crafted these decorative images to adorn their homes. Through their syncretism and origins, Aurélia Jaubert’s tapestries seek to champion the idea of a figurative art that transcends boundaries and is accessible to all.
